When the college of Basic Education had been established as a part of the University of Koya, the Arabic Department was opened for the first time in 2009. In October 2009, about 38 students were enrolled to attend the course. With the establishment of the University of Raparin, this department was annexed to the School of Basic Education and during 2012-2013 this department introduced the first group of graduates who are expected to serve as teachers in schools. The graduates are BA holders in Arabic who can work as teachers at Basic Schools and in public sectors as well as in private sectors.
